Drug discovery today involves a mix of literature, data science, in vitro lab experiments. It's a world of "noodling" where experience, expertise and luck are just as important as data and funds. Not much has really changed in the last 50 years, even with the advent of complex algorithms and cloud computing. Drug discovery remains challenging with projects regulalry overunning and/or being canceled. Fundamentally this is because computational methods, while fast and trendy, are rarely trusted by biologists. Hypothesis-free methods are believable to a point, but today scientists still need real wet lab data before making significant program decisions. Incubate Bio is addressing this challenge head-on. We have implemented causal inference techniques, together with ML and LLMs, that are designed so that scientists can understand the biology reasoning behind the computational results. Crucially, they are then able to make important program decisions with the in silico data generated by computers! This presentation will tell our story and how we are breaking through the expected skepticism in lab scientists. The Lab of Future for drug discovery scientists is about to receive a welcome boost!
