Pharmaceutical Analysis Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy University of Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands
Sabeth Verpoorte is Professor of Analytical Chemistry & Pharmaceutical Analysis, and has been head of the Pharmaceutical Analysis Group in the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) since 2003. She has more than 30 years of experience in the lab-on-a-chip and organ-on-a-chip fields. Her introduction to the field came in 1990, when she arrived from Canada as a postdoctoral researcher in the pioneering lab-on-a-chip group headed by Prof. Andreas Manz at Ciba Ltd., Basel, Switzerland. In July 1996, Sabeth became a team leader in the group of Professor Nico F. de Rooij at the Institute of Microtechnology (IMT), University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where her research interests concentrated on microfluidics for (bio)analytical applications. Sunce 2003, her research has taken on a strong cell biological / pharmacological focus, and continues to include joint organ-on-a-chip projects with colleagues in pharmacy and medical biology. Efforts have also concentrated on continuous-flow particle separation strategies, as well as miniaturized analytical instrumentation. Sabeth has published papers in top analytical chemistry journals. She is or has been involved in several international conference organizations and journal editorial boards. In 2022, Sabeth accepted an Honorary Doctorate from Tampere University (Finland) for her work on lab-on-a-chip and organ-on-a-chip research as well as for long-standing interdisciplinary collaborations.
