Dr. Yuka Otsuka, Ph.D. is a staff scientist in the Department of Molecular Medicine at The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology. As part of the molecular screening center she develops and optimizes cell and biochemical-based assays for high throughput drug discovery. Her Ph.D. degree is in virology which she obtained in Germany. In 2016, she moved to the USA and joined Scripps. From 2016 to 2019, her work was focused on developing a system that allow the measurement of the rate of HIV-1 resistance development against broadly neutralizing antibodies. From 2019 to present, she has been working at the molecular screening center. Recently, she is responsible for a large part of the Midwest AViDD HTS projects which aim to identify anti-virus drug of different viruses of pandemic potential including SARS-CoV-2. This has led to multiple publications in peer reviewed journals within her field.
