MIMETAS, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands
Flavio Bonanini studied biology and biomedical engineering in Switzerland. He then joined Mimetas, a biotech company located in Leiden where he conducts his PhD research. His research is centered on the advancement of organ-on-chips, a technology in which microfluidic devices are populated with human cells and are capable of mimicking the structure and function of human organs and tissues at a miniature scale. Flavio’s work focuses on mimicking the cellular and architectural complexity, as well as the metabolic competence of several organs, with particular emphasis on liver and vascular systems. These innovative models hold immense potential in offering viable alternatives to traditional animal testing methods, revolutionizing the landscape of biomedical research and drug development.
