Dr. Jennifer Smith is Director of the ICCB-Longwood Screening Facility and Drug Discovery Sciences Core, and Lecturer in the Department of Immunology at Harvard Medical School. She is a broadly trained molecular biologist with expertise in virology, assay development, high throughput screening and data analysis strategies. Jen obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in the Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology Program where she studied oncolytic reovirus and cellular translational inhibition. She did her postdoctoral research in Peter Howley’s laboratory at Harvard Medical School, focusing on oncogenic papillomaviruses. Jen joined the team at ICCB-L in 2011. ICCB-Longwood is one of the oldest academic screening cores and has an international reputation for innovative screening technologies and high impact screens. An investigator-initiated, staff-assisted screening model is utilized at ICCB-Longwood, supporting high throughput small molecule and arrayed functional genomics screening, as well as the use of laboratory automation for a variety of other experimental goals. The Drug Discovery Sciences Core Laboratory within the Therapeutics Initiative at Harvard Medical School focuses on developing assays for routine microplate experiments and high throughput screens, advancing scientific discoveries towards novel therapies.
