Dr. Popova, a graduate of Lomonosov Moscow State University's Department of Cell Biology and Immunology in Russia, conducted her M.Sc. research on Epstein-Barr virus latent membrane protein 1 polymorphism at the Blokhin Cancer Research Center's in Moscow. She was working on this project at Kyoto University's Institute for Virus Research in Japan.
Following her graduation, Dr. Popova served as a junior scientist at the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology in Moscow, focusing on protein translation termination mechanisms. She also conducted research as a guest researcher at the University Hospital Charité's Institute for Medical Physics and Biophysics in Berlin, Germany.
She earned her Ph.D. at the University Medical Centre Mannheim, University of Heidelberg, in the Department of Dermatology and Allergology, Germany. Since January 2014, Dr. Popova has been a project leader at the Institute of Biological and Chemical Systems – Functional Molecular Systems (IBCS-FMS). Additionally, she co-founded Aquarray GmbH in 2018.
