Dr. Lara H. El Touny, Ph.D. is a staff scientist at the Functional Genomics Laboratory at NCATS/NIH. She holds a B.S and M.S. in Biology from the American University in Beirut and earned a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Georgetown University, which was followed by postdoctoral training in the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute, focused on modeling and targeting metastatic dormancy in 3-dimensional in vitro and in vivo models. Dr. El Touny then worked as a scientist in the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, where she investigated the role of DNA damage response in patient-derived cell lines and organoids using CRISPR and chemogenomics. In 2019, Dr. El Touny joined the Functional Genomics Laboratory at NCATS/NIH, where she applies her expertise in molecular biology and assay development to conduct CRIPSR and RNAi screens for target discovery.
