Lalin Theverapperuma, PhD (he/him/his)

Lalin Theverapperuma, the CTO and Co-Founder of Expert Intelligence, leads the revolution of analytical testing through EI CoPilots – AI enabled virtual lab assistants for analytical and biochemistry experts. At the heart of EI CoPilots lies the invention of a unique low-data Generative AI technology platform. This platform enables experts to seamlessly train and optimize EI CoPilots' performance through an intuitive graphical interface called EI’s Data Canvas, while the Generative Active Learning technology creates a dynamic feedback loop, continually refining accuracy through expert input. EI CoPilots accelerate data analysis by 180x in proteomics, reduce manual efforts by 3.5x, and slash common errors by 5x in quality assurance procedures.

Before Expert Intelligence, Lalin was a Senior Technical Lead at Meta where he pioneered hybrid ML algorithms for AR/VR to enhance the Metaverse. Additionally, he led specialized Deep Learning teams, delivering impactful projects. Before his tenure at Meta, Lalin co-founded SafeAI, Inc., where he played a pivotal role in its inception. He assembled top-tier teams and crafted SafeAI's technology roadmap. At Vicarious AI, he led Artificial General Intelligence productization in Robotics, Reinforcement Learning, and Computer Vision.
During his seven-year tenure at Apple, Lalin led key engineering and deep learning initiatives. As the lead architect for machine learning and Signal Processing, he shaped core audio systems in consumer products. Notably, his work on Apple AirPods with a custom W1 chip revolutionized audio signal processing. Lalin's innovations in multimodal Deep Neural Network applications improved audio quality through sensor and DSP-based ML fusion. His integration of ML-based speaker recognition with voice-enable features like "Hey Siri" activation and real-time sensor data classification, showcased his technical leadership.
Lalin's career also encompasses roles at Intel and Bosch, where he contributed to security systems and Intel's mobile platforms.
