Essi is a Product Manager for UPM Biomedicals at UPM Kymmene Corporation and is responsible for the development of their animal-free Life Science product portfolio and she has just relocated to build-up their brand-new location in Basel, Switzerland. Essi has a strong background in 3D cell culture and tissue engineering. Before joining the company last year, she was working on her PhD on investigation and development of biomaterial based vascular tissue engineering applications at Oslo University Hospital, Norway. She especially focused on decellularization of human derived matrices and nanocellulose-based 3D bioprinted devices for pancreatic islets in vivo transplantation. In her current role she’s motivated to understand customer’s needs and help them to develop 3D culture models towards sustainable and animal-free applications and offer solutions for scalable automated assays and drug screening.
